WHY do you want to go Canyoneering?
Module 10

People are drawn to canyoneering for all kinds of reasons: the thrill of adventure, the challenge of exercise, or just tagging along with a friend doing “cool” things. For most, it’s about discovering incredible places (and experiences) only a lucky few will ever see!
Canyons need advocates to protect and preserve their beauty. Let’s keep them accessible for everyone.
Whether you’re tackling an advanced canyon or loving the simplicity of the Subway, for example – your experience is YOURS. Don’t let others diminish it (because unfortunately, it happens!)
Variety is the spice of life! Descend “the best”, “duds”, “meh”, and other under-rated canyons – the passed-up canyons often hold the memorable surprises.
Don’t be “that person” who claims to know it all. The canyon will quickly remind you otherwise (see Dunning-Kruger effect).
Avoid over-estimating your skills and under-estimating the canyon.
Take it slow – master the basics, build confidence, and progress to harder canyons safely. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither are great canyoneers.
Don’t fall for FOMO (Fear of Missing Out)! The canyons will always be there. Focus on soaking in the adventure – not conquering through it.
Three golden rules of canyoneering:
1. Be safe. (Seriously and always, safety first.)
2. Have fun. (Because that’s the whole point!)
3. Always follow them in that order.
Take your time, enjoy the adventure, and record (photos, videos, journal entry) the canyon and your experience for every canyon that you visit.
Lastly, help others by giving back to the canyoneering community.
