Canyoneering is a TEAM sport
Module 9

Canyoneering emphasizes teamwork and group safety over individual talent. The goal is to ensure everyone exits the canyon safely, which requires understanding core skills like efficient rappelling.
Rappelling is often the biggest timewaster, but techniques like down-climbing or setting up the next rappel while another is rappelling can save significant time. For example, my group cut Imlay Canyon time from 17 to 8 hours by using efficient teamwork and reducing group size.
While efficiency is important, remember, canyoneering is not a race. Prioritize safety but, to be blunt, you need to always consider the group’s slowest member.
“You are only as fast as the slowest person.”
