REAL INCIDENTS REAL LESSONS

ICAD CASE STUDY FINDER

Read each report in its teaching module. These are real incidents that have been reported to the ICAD (International Canyoneering Accident Database) and the NPS (National Park Service) social media accounts. These accounts show how ordinary decisions can combine into serious consequences; the discussion attempts to report facts from the lesson drawn from them. Future revisions will contain more accidents as I discover more relevant ones to canyoneering. Someone twisting their ankle is common, but I’m looking more for “bad (or no) planning”, or “rigged up the anchor wrong”, or “overlooked this or that”, etc.
