KNOTS
Knot Practice Check
CAN YOU DO THIS WITHOUT THE BOOK?
• Name the knot and explain what job it does.
• Tie it from memory.
• Dress the strands cleanly.
• Identify the working end, standing part, bight, loop, hitch, or bend terminology involved.
• Explain the caution that matters most for that knot.
• Have another canyoneer inspect it and explain what they are checking.
• Untie it and repeat until the process feels deliberate rather than lucky.
REMEMBER: The canyon is not the knot classroom. Practice these knots somewhere safely first with very minimal risk, and if at all possible, under the guidance of an expert or instructor.
