KNOTS

Knot Practice Check

CAN YOU DO THIS WITHOUT THE BOOK?

Name the knot and explain what job it does.

Tie it from memory.

Dress the strands cleanly.

Identify the working end, standing part, bight, loop, hitch, or bend terminology involved.

Explain the caution that matters most for that knot.

Have another canyoneer inspect it and explain what they are checking.

Untie it and repeat until the process feels deliberate rather than lucky.

REMEMBER: The canyon is not the knot classroom. Practice these knots somewhere safely first with very minimal risk, and if at all possible, under the guidance of an expert or instructor.
