UNIT 2 OVERVIEW | The Essentials
Unit 1 was about learning how and what to think before you commit to the canyon. Unit 2 is where we start putting tools in your hands.
This section covers gear, protection, knots, anchors, ropes, rigging, rappelling, ascending, and movement skills that form the working foundation of technical canyoneering. You do not need every specialty item on day one—but you should understand what the equipment does and when the canyon changes what you need.
WHAT UNIT 2 BUILDS
• A practical gear system specific to the canyon
• Protection for rock, water, weather, cold, heat, and long canyon days
• A working understanding of anchors, ropes, knots, rigging, rappelling, and ascending
• The habit of matching your gear to the canyon, the conditions, and your group
• Remember: the right gear does not replace judgment—it gives good judgment more options
